Everyone has has had bad breath at one time or another, however some people just always seem to have breath that smells like someone with dirty feet walked right into their mouths. This is usually evident with people that smoke, drink coffee, and eat spicy foods. Mouth washes and gums are commonly used to fight of halitosis, but what happens is the odor is being masked by mints and breath tends to smell like a minty stank. Also, mouthwashes are full of sugars and alcohol, and gum is not an option for those who have dentures or braces. So I guess the question now is how can we avoid this in the first place? And how can it be done naturally?

First, lets examine what causes bad breath. Bad breath can be caused by two things. One is the digestion of food. When your body is busy digesting the gases are released and rise out of our mouths. Certain foods cause really smelly gases such as meats, onions, and notoriously garlic. The other reason for bad breath is the bacteria buildup in our mouths, throat, and teeth. This kind of bad breath is usually remedied by simply brushing our teeth in the morning, however many times it is chronic because of all of the hiding places in our mouth that bacteria fin refuge in. The good news is there are some natural remedies that can help combat chronic or temporary foul odor on our breath.

The simplest remedy for bad breath is to wash your mouth. The more you brush, the less time the bacteria has to multiply. It is not only the teeth that need a good washing, the tongue and walls of the mouth needs to be cleaned as well. Brush all of this to remove the layer of bacteria that love to hide out and grow in there. Also, it is extremely important to take care of the tooth brush and change them regularly. Tooth brushes harbor just as much bacteria. Flossing is extremely important as well. The bacteria live in the middle of the teeth where it is difficult to reach. Dental floss with tea tree oil is great because because it has anti-bacteria qualities. Rinsing the mouth out with tea tree oil is another natural way to kill bacteria. So is using baking soda in a little water to rinse out the mouth with. Baking soda neutralizes many odors, especially the odor of bad breath. Ginger is another good way to rid your mouth of bad breath. Lastly, drink lots of water. Consuming water naturally washes down unsavory food particles which will help immensely with combating bad breath.
